Bards, Ovates & Druids Tartan
​
With the 3 golden strands of Awen, the 5 elements’ colours (Earth, Air, Fire, Water & Spirit) and the 3 Grades’ colours, this is the tartan for Bards, Ovates & Druids, and any Pagan of a good heart.
​
This tartan was born from an idea by Kate Collison (UK) and Billy Stewart (USA) in 2020, and approved by Philip Carr-Gomm. It is registered with the Scottish Tartan Authority.
​
The material is pure wool, and 140cm wide. It is fairly thick material, known as 16oz, and is suitable for kilts, cloaks, scarves and upholstery, as well as making into bags, purses, trews, and all manner of craft ideas.

Plant dyed, hand woven, scarves, wraps/shawls and blankets

In addition to the material woven in a tartan mill in Scotland, I am delighted to be able to offer these unique and very special creations in the Bards, Ovates and Druids Tartan. The wool & silk are dyed at home using only natural plant dyes, then hand woven on a small loom. Each one is made individually to order, and takes about 2-4 weeks to make from start to finish.

The wool comes from the Falkland Islands. Not only does this support cottage industry, but it is the softest wool in the world. The sheep are continuously washed with rain blown in from the Southern Atlantic Ocean, meaning the wool contains abundant natural oils. There are no scrubby bushes in the fields for the wool to get caught on, so does not get stretched and snagged, nor are there bits of twig to comb out before spinning. All of this results in a soft, warm, non itchy wool, that feels and looks beautiful.

Pouches in Bards, Ovates and Druids Tartan

Perfect for runes, ogham sticks, hag stones or similar, these pouches come in 3 different sizes with optional cord, beads and fastener accessory pack. With hessian liner and sewn in loops for the cord, these pouches are hand made in the New Forest.

Small - £32, 30cm diameter, gathers up to make a pouch 15cm tall.
Medium - £49, 45cm diameter, gathers up to make a pouch 22cm tall.
Large - £69, 60cm diameter, gathers up to make a pouch 30cm tall.
​
Accessories pack - £3, contains 1m black cord, 4 wooden beads
